Personality and History
Born in Dublin on June 21, 1942, two years after the Battle of Britain, to Jack and Claire McCoy. His parents avoided any fights during WWII and moved to London in 1945, after the war had ended. There, his father got a job at the Ministry where he worked until young William was old enough to attend Hogwarts. Being of Pureblood heritage, young Bill was made aware of his abilities at an early age and also practiced spells with hit father. Thanks to that, he arrived at Hogwarts somewhat prepared.
He was sorted into Hufflepuff because of his sense of righteousness and his "profound and strong sense of idealism", as the Sorting Hat remarked. Being a bookworm and a quick learner, he excelled in his academic achievements and was one of the foremost students of his generation. He was also a part of the Hufflepuff Quidditch team, where he played as a Seeker; Hufflepuff won the Cup in those years. After graduating from Howarts, he wished to succeed his father in the Ministry. He went to a Muggle Law University in London and got a degree there, successfully hiding his true heritage during the Cold War paranoia.
In 1970, his father went into retirement and young William became his successor. The Department of Law Enforcement flourished during these years, achieving a historical high completion rate for cases tried before the Ministriy's courts; he was also one of the Justices in the Tribunal that tried the Death Eaters after the First War. As soon as the Ministry was occupied be the Dark Army in the Second War, McCoy resigned and went to the Order where he fought alongside his colleagues. After the Second War, he was asked to preside over the Tribunal that successfully tried the remaining Death Eaters. He was offered the post of Minister of Magic, but declined, disillusioned with what the Ministry had become. He returned to Hogwarts, where he succeeded his former mentor and friend, Minerva McGonagall, as the Transfiguration professor. Soon after, he was appointed Head of Hufflepuff House.
